Kate Mitchell

Kate is an Auckland-based multi-disciplinary glass artist who works with both cast and blown glass. The concept of Kate’s practice is to construct objects which challenge the materials in which they are normally represented. By translating objects into glass sculptures, she attempts to strip back their original function, purpose and meaning. It is through this juxtaposition of original material with the cast item that the inherent qualities of glass help create a new framework of meaning.
